Q: How many students are needed in order for an Instructor Led course to be held?
We require a minimum of 20 pre-registered students 10 days in advance of the training date to facilitate a training delivery.
Q: What is the cost?
There is no cost to attend or host RDPC training. All training is provided free of charge by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security/FEMA through the RDPC. Local jurisdictions are only asked to provide classroom space and assist in marketing and outreach to promote the training event.
Q: Does training have to be delivered at a rural site or is it possible for training to be delivered at an urban location as well?
While the focus of the RDPC is to help rural first responders and communities with minimum budgets to better respond to emergencies and disasters, the RDPC can offer training at urban locations under special circumstances, such as a statewide conference, meeting, or event which draws in practitioners from small and rural areas. These deliveries are assessed on a case-by-case basis and are subjected to DHS approval.
Q: How long will it take for me to get started on the online course after I have completed the registration process?
All of our training courses can be started as soon as you’ve completed the online registration form for the course you wish to enroll in, with the exception of PER-281 (Homeland Security Terrorism Prevention Certificate for Law Enforcement). According to the Department of Homeland Security guidelines, if you wish to enroll in PER-281 you must allow 2-3 days for employment verification in a law enforcement/ homeland security related occupation before beginning the course.
Q: Where do I need to go in order to register for a course?
To register for a course go to www.ruraltraining.org and move your cursor over the “Training” tab at the top of the screen. Once you’ve highlighted the “Training” tab, you can navigate to either the “Instructor Led Training” or “Online Training”. After clicking on either of these pages, you can register for any course that you would like by clicking on the name of the course as you see if presented in the list.
Online courses allow the user to register online. For classroom-based, instructor-led training, you have two options. In some cases you can register for training directly through the RDPC website. If so, you will see a blue button titled “Register Online”. In other cases, you may have to contact another individual to register. That information will be listed under “Registration Info”.
Q: Where do I go to login to my online course?
After you have registered for an online course, you may login to the RDPC Online Training Center at http://ol.ruraltraining.org to begin your training.
Q: I have lost/forgotten my password. How do I have my password reset?
If you are having trouble registering, or need other technical support, please contact the RDPC helpdesk at helpdesk@ruraltraining.org or by phone at 1-877-855-RDPC (7372).
Q: How do I request a course delivery in my area?
To request a course delivery in your area you can navigate your web browser to: http://www.ruraltraining.org/request-course and complete the course delivery request application.
Q: How will/when will I receive my certificate of completion?
For instructor-led, classroom-based training, please allow 3-4 weeks for processing and mailing.
For online courses you will receive your certificate of completion upon successfully completing a course by logging on to the online learning website at ol.ruraltraining.org. After you have successfully logged into the website you can click on the course that you wish to print your certificate of completion for and click “Download Your Certificate” immediately after completing the course. However, if you are taking the PER-281 course, you must allow 4-6 weeks for your completion certificate to be mailed to the mailing address that you provide us with.
