The Homeland Security Foundation of America (HSFA), which is based in Atlanta, Georgia, has recently launched RubyWATCH, a national terrorism and crime prevention database that also functions as a tip line for citizens.
RubyWATCH is a Web-based program that is built on technology developed for HSFA's Strategic Terrorism Analysis Network (project STAN), which uses artificial intelligence to “simulate patterns of behavior and tactics of terrorists.”

Government officials participated in a tabletop exercise that determined that a massive solar storm could occur in the near future and leave millions of people around the world without necessary utilities, such as electricity and water.
Solar storms occur due to an eruption or explosion on the surface of the sun that sends radiation or electrically charged particles toward Earth. Minor solar storms occur regularly and can interfere with radio signals. Major solar storms only occur every few decades and can release the energy of a billion hydrogen bombs.

Sheriff Larry Deen of Bossier Parrish, Louisiana is training his officers, along with other community volunteers for an "end of the world" type disaster. The exercise, named Operation Exodus, is a plan to protect the vital resources, such as food, water, and gasoline, of Bossier Parris in the event of a terrorist attack or other catastrophic disaster.
