Q: How many students are needed in order for an Instructor Led course to be held?

We require a minimum of 20 pre-registered students 10 days in advance of the training date to facilitate a training delivery.

Q: What is the cost?

There is no cost to attend or host RDPC training. All training is provided free of charge by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security/FEMA through the RDPC. Local jurisdictions are only asked to provide classroom space and assist in marketing and outreach to promote the training event.

Q: Does training have to be delivered at a rural site or is it possible for training to be delivered at an urban location as well?

While the focus of the RDPC is to help rural first responders and communities with minimum budgets to better respond to emergencies and disasters, the RDPC can offer training at urban locations under special circumstances, such as a statewide conference, meeting, or event which draws in practitioners from small and rural areas. These deliveries are assessed on a case-by-case basis and are subjected to DHS approval.

Q: How long will it take for me to get started on the online course after I have completed the registration process?

All of our training courses can be started as soon as you’ve completed the online registration form for the course you wish to enroll in, with the exception of PER-281 (Homeland Security Terrorism Prevention Certificate for Law Enforcement). According to the Department of Homeland Security guidelines, if you wish to enroll in PER-281 you must allow 2-3 days for employment verification in a law enforcement/ homeland security related occupation before beginning the course.

Q: How will/when will I receive my certificate of completion?

For instructor-led, classroom-based training, please allow 3-4 weeks for processing and mailing.

For online courses you will receive your certificate of completion upon successfully completing a course by logging on to the online learning website at ol.ruraltraining.org. After you have successfully logged into the website you can click on the course that you wish to print your certificate of completion for and click “Download Your Certificate” immediately after completing the course. However, if you are taking the PER-281 course, you must allow 4-6 weeks for your completion certificate to be mailed to the mailing address that you provide us with.
